I wasn't in Los Angeles during the 1989 quake, so if you're only looking for stories about LA residents, that's not me. But I was on a school field trip in the Santa Cruz Mountains during that time. It was a fifth grade field trip.
I was pissed because I was missing the World Series while my Giants were playing. I was just messing around with some of my friends, and then the entire earth started shaking. It turns out we were about 15 miles from the epicenter, so it was especially rocking where we were.
Luckily everybody was safe, and nobody got hurt. We were in some pretty open areas at the time, so there wasn't any immediate danger. But I do remember the redwoods all around us were still swaying for a while afterwords. It was a pretty crazy experience.
