Closing the TechCrunch50 event is inconstant with Jason's personal strategy; his affiliation with Sequoia, his personal show "This Week In Startups", his general desire to help businesses start and grow.
It's possible that Arrington has pulled out to focus on his tablet and other projects. TC50 will transform into something else. It will likely be re-branded and relaunched.
This "breaking news" feels like a bit of marketing to me.

What are you thoughts on TechCrunch50 2009 being the final TC50?
According to an interview with the well known Shel puppet (performed by Loren Feldman), Jason Calacanis says that this is the last TC50.

Oh hold on... it wouldn't be because the next TechCrunch likely won't be "TechCrunch50" maybe "TechCrunch75", would it?

I don't think so, because this year they did a two day conference, versus a three day conference last year.

There's still something wonky up with this. Jason wears sunglasses for a reason when he plays poker :)

Completely agree - there is something up. They timing (very end of the clip) and the delivery completely have the feel of TechCrunch 60. In 2007, this was TechCrunch 40. Maybe they change the number or maybe TechCrunch changes the name entirely, but something "like" this conference seems like it will go on next year.
