It looks like in the early 1930's he was sympathetic to the Germans and wrote a book about it, but shortly after he rejected those ideas, but only made matters worse in writing satire about it.
~quote~
Although Lewis was at times his own worst enemy, his greatest mistake was to write a sympathetic account of German National-Socialism (Hitler, 1931) in which he naively treated Hitler as someone who would bring peace to Europe. He soon rejected this view and later wrote the ironically entitled book, The Jews, Are They Human? (1939), and The Hitler Cult (1939), but the damage to his career had been done.
~end quote~
He portrayed himself as an outsider and often contradicted himself.
I personally think that any racist remarks were taken out of context, and misconstrued.
In all of his paranoid actions, I'm sure he actually liked people not knowing where he really stood on this subject.
I'm just amazed at how many pictures were taken of him with a cigarette in his mouth!

Was Wyndham Lewis really a racist and anti-semite or were his characters meant to be satirical?
Was he ever part of any organizations that promoted this type of thinking and behavior?
