I disagree with 1/3 or your question.
Yes reading and writing have taken a hit from the ever present computer spell check and synopsis, but I think that speaking well is still important.
It's just that the version of speaking well depends on the audience.
I live in a foreign country now and am always amazed at the number of languages people can speak with ease and communicate with others from an entirely different background.
So in conclusion I would say that communication is not dead, but good reading and writing may be in a bit of decline...

I'm always amazed at what people get away with. As I watch Judge Judy (since that's my... oh... wait... nevermind), I enjoy how she mandates good English in the courtroom and also recognizes that there is another way to communicate with your friends.
The trouble is... when you want to communicate outside your group, you have to have a common language or communication will be muddied.

also like someone mentioned above, how we communicate differs with who we are communicating with. like friends is more informal than business.
like on here i don't bother with English stuff much. but for university i do.

I HOPE that communication is not dead (since that's my job), I just hope that people want to improve their communication (since that's my job). I'm always amazed at what people get away with. As I watch Judge Judy (since that's my... oh... wait... nevermind), I enjoy how she mandates good English in the courtroom and also recognizes that there is another way to communicate with your friends.

communication isn't dead, but reading, writing, and speaking properly are definitely not regarded as important to younger people on the average. also like someone mentioned above, how we communicate differs with who we are communicating with. like friends is more informal than business.
like on here i don't bother with English stuff much. but for university i do.

Reading, writing and speaking ... well these are the basics for a literate person.... In older days there was a belief that knowledge is everything and people used to do post graduation to the minimum ... but people now have found out that only studying does not make wealth .. application of what they have studied makes wealth.. thats why Reading, writing and speaking are becoming less important ... well i dont think that communication will be dead any time .. it will never be.. people in past used to communicate even when there was no language to speak..
