Probably a question for the girls more than the boys. At what age did your parents allow you to have your ears pierced? Or didnt they?

I had to wait till I was 16 before I was allowed to decide whether or not to have my ears pierced. I wondered how other people faired when wanting something considered a little "controvercial" in their youth.

At 16? Really? Why did it take that long? Do your family or ethnicity have other beliefs?

I had my ears pierce when I was still a baby. That's practically another way on how to have babies be easily distinguished if it's a boy or a girl, of course at first, babies before don't really wear pink or blue colors to identify the babies sexuality.

When I was still a baby, most of my things are white too. So I think it's the earrings that made me look like a girl. :)

• Actually it is illegal to have any piercing in the UK without parental consent, under the age of 16, so I couldnt have even if I wanted to.

Can you tell me if you are of hispanic descent? I live in Spain (although I am British) and it seems here, that they always pierce the girls ears when they have been Christened, as a way of identifying the boys from the girls. Im just curious how your culture works.

I'm Asian. :) I live in the Philippines. They pierce girls' ears here during her infant days. Of course not right after she was born but at least before her family could take her home after a few days at the hospital.

I haven't seen a baby girl yet without earrings here. It's still the family's choice though if they want their little girl's ears pierced. But all of the people here does that. One of the reason is that to identify easily if a baby's a girl or a boy. And in our society nowadays, girls are meant to have their ears pierced, right?

I had my ears pierced when I was about 3 years old. I remembered my mother placing some fancy earrings on my ears but I was allergic to them so she let me wore those hypoallergenic or gold earrings.

When I had my first baby we had her ears pierced when she was only 3 months old because a lot of people who saw her thought she is a boy because of her straight short hair.

My mother had strictly forbidden to pierce my ears. She reckoned one should not damage the body unneccessarily. She also thought it was a bit archaic or tribal. So I never got round getting my ears pierced really. What´s the point anyway?
