SMASHING OPTION #1 - Electronics. People always go crazy for electronic gadgets. What you choose depends on your budget and audience (you didn't mentioned what level of school). If you can afford it, definitely raffle off an IPod, maybe a video game system. Flat-screen TVs are always popular.

SMASHING OPTION #2 - If you're at college, raffle off a large gift certificate to the campus bookstore, enough to buy one term's books.

SMASHING OPTION #3 - Can you work with the school administration to secure a special parking space for the winner? How about a 1-year parking space reserved just for the winner!

SMASHING OPTION #4 - A spa gift certificate. Enough for a massage, mani, pedi, and facial. Sure, you'll mainly target females with this, but you might be able to get it donated from a local spa in trade for promoting their name a bunch.
