How common is "Cross-dominance"?

OK, so for most of my life I thought that my sister and I were both ambidextrous (my sister writes with her right hand but does most other things left handed and I write left handed and everything else right handed).

But now I learned a new term, "Cross-dominance", which describes me more accurately. How common is this?

...and I would assume Brian that you are right dominant? That your right side is stronger than your left?
Alas, I am in your boat. I am left handed but do most everything else with my right hand. I would throw and use my right in an arm wrestling contest with you.

Being a massage and physical therapist for 15+ years, I've also found the tightness would be on the opposite side to what hand you write with.
(for us, it would be the right side) I have found that to be the compensation factor.

They say that cross dominance people have trouble with shooting or aim, but I haven't found that to be true for me.

Lefties of the world unite!

You are right on all accounts except for the tight muscle side (I always have problems with my left shoulder blade)

My friends have always said that I wasn't quite normal...
(My mother always preferred the term "unique")

That's the compsensation factor. Your left side hurts and aches, but when I get in and start working, I find that the other side is even tighter than the one you're complaining about. You would notice it too if I brought it up and compared pressure points on both sides. (it's amazing what the brain blocks out!)

(they just called me special)

Very interesting! I will have to try focusing on the right side next time I get a massage (though my wife is not fond of them, so it might be a while..)
