Have you ever been to a country where cockfighting is accepted as a legitimate sport?

Many people in the U.S. think of cockfighting as a barbaric bloodsport, but in places like the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico cockfighting is big business and culturally accepted for the most part. Have you ever been to a legal cockfight in one of these places? Do you know anyone who has and supports the 'sport'?

I can't say I have been to any country that it is acceptable. I did find this though "Cockfighting is both legal and popular in the Dominican Republic"

Did you know Louisiana is the only state in America that it is legal!

Your information is out of date. Cockfighting was banned in Louisiana effective August 2008.

I have been to the USA. I never went to a cockfight. Cockfighting has always been a matter of state law. Here in Louisiana it was only recently finally outlawed. I lived here years before it happened. The country folks just kept on fighting and claiming that it was part of their culture. As the cockfights always seemed to include gambling and drugs their arguments were eventually overruled.

Sadly, yes. I live in Puerto Rico, where cockfighting is legal. I do not think of cockfighting as a sport and i beleive it should be banned due to animal cruelty. The saddest part of it is that not only cocks ripped each other to entertain people, once the fight is over the cocks that end in bad shape are thrown on roads ans highways to be killed by the cars. I have seen this many times. So I have to say that is a shame on my country.
