I have been to three Ren faires, in Dallas Texas, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Faires tend to be very similar, and if you have never been to one, just going to one, no matter which one it is, is an awesome experience.

But there are some things that set some faires apart.

I went to the Bristol Ren Faire in Kenosha, WI for the first time about a month ago. It was my favorite fest so far, for several different reasons.

One, since it's so close to Chicago, there is a *lot* of talented performers at the faire, many of whom work their professional "day jobs" in theater.

Two, the grounds of the faire are nice and spread out. There is a good mix of shopping, but also places to walk around and sit under the shade.

Three, the food and beer are great. There is at least a dozen different types of beer to get at several different restaurants and food stalls across the faire.

Four, there are flush toilets. This is a huge thing and something that I've never seen at other Ren Faires.

The Texas Renaissance Festival north of Houston is the largest in the country & is a pretty wild time. In addition to all the things you would expect from such an event, they allow you to camp in the woods surrounding the site, so the party never stops. Comedy, music, booze & babes...how do you beat it?

Denver has a very nice RenFair (It is actually in Larkspur just south of Denver). They have a very nice permanent facility and the whole town gets into it producing some great characters. They get good entertainment and have especially good crafts and merchants, in my opinion, due to the number of local craftspeople.

I've been to some smaller events in the midwest and none are anywhere as good as this one.
