In a way yes, but couples can also be viewed in a negitive light take for example young newlyweds, Gay couples or even interacial couples.
As far as single people are concerned I believe adults over the age of 29 are look down oppone if they are not married or ddivorced by this age. I believe the tax breaks you are refering to tend to be given to couples because there is more finacial straighn on them then there would be on a single guy or gal.
A person that decides to stay single for the rest of there lives is viewed as strange because of the believe that man is here to pass his seed. We live and propogade is the only legazy we leave behind and that is why someone who choses not to do this is viewed as weired.

Does society view single people negatively?
There seems to be certain aspects of American society that favor married people, especially couples with children. For example, parents receive more tax breaks. Also a person who decides to stay single for their whole lives may be viewed as strange or something is wrong with them.
