It won't flop but Twitter isn't for everyone. Explosion is a relative term, Myspace and Facebook also went through explosive growth phases as people found out about them. I think Twitter will always be a niche service only because it doesn't offer the wide range of use options that Facebook does. Facebook will still be popular for the ability to share pictures, play games embed links and music.
Mashable recently published an article that says 60% of new Twitter users don't return after the first month. Are all those user who signed up to follow Oprah going to become engaged Twitter users, I think not. Many people try it out and don't see what all the fuss is about.

I think that if anything, it will become more useful as more people join the service. It has almost completely negated the need for facebook for me. So no, I think it will be around for quite a while.

I don't think it will "flop." Just speaking for myself, it has become an invaluable tool to keep in touch with people I don't usually speak with, keep up on the news, learn things from important people in my work field, plan excursions, and any number of other things. I think that if anything, it will become more useful as more people join the service. It has almost completely negated the need for facebook for me. So no, I think it will be around for quite a while.

I think it will level out but not flop. Twitter seems to be sky rocketing but overall it should stay up there. It should nose dive back down but in time the explosion should slow down. There is no way twitter will continue to grow forever, but it is not going to flop either.
