Do you believe that H.R.1866 - Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009 would be a positive or a negative bill if passed?
RSS
I think it would be positive and I think the whole issue of hemp cultivation should be entirely separated from a discussion of marijuana.
Hemp is an extremely useful industrial crop, it grows quickly on bad land and produces a fiber that has many industrial uses. Until recently hemp rope was considered the best for nautical use. Industrial hemp contains essentially no psychoactive substances such as THC. It is useless to smoke it or do anything illegal with it.
We should recognize that commercial hemp is a valuable, legal, commercial crop and allow farmers to grow it.
The whole drug argument is absurd. For instance poppy seeds come from opium poppies, not even a related non-psychoative species. It actually is sterilized (so you can't grow them) seeds of the opium poppy. And Coca-Cola contains a flavoring extract derived from the coca plant used to make cocaine. It is utterly without merit that farmers can't grow hemp, it is more valuable than either of those examples.
