Yes and no.
Yes they waste time, because social networking allows for members to submit comments in regard to their daily routines, their current status, and other oddities that may occur on a regular basis. In other words, "I am going to the bathroom." or "Lunch time with coffee"...etc etc....
No, they can be educational and helpful, depending on who/what you follow via social networking. Basically if you follow individuals in your line of work then you can obtain great knowledge and skills from their writings. For example, if you are in the TECH line then follow tech enthusiasts and gain knowledge of product releases, software enhancements, etc etc...
Simple and to the point for me....hope that helps.
