I think the biggest issue is what you would consider a charity.
For example, if you consider a family's church "charity", then this would significantly raise the percentage of Conservative families who give to "charity".
Personally, I find that church contributions are no more charitable than paying dues at a racquet club or social group. The dues largely go to build facilities and throw events for the direct benefit of the congregation.
And this is but one example of how the ideas of "charity" can vary greatly, and how it is difficult to measure such things. Plus, I'd like to think that the best people in America give a lot in labor and money to real charitable causes without telling a soul about it - especially for the purposes of statistical data. You know what I mean?

Very difficult to say. A recently conducted (and highly publicized) study concluded that Conservatives gave more to charitable causes than Liberals or Moderates. But the study has been largely disputed as faulty in its logic and conclusions (see my source link below for the full story). I think the biggest issue is what you would consider a charity.

I am religious and I consider that a charitable contribution because no one in my church is paid for any church related services they perform, and because my churches aid origination is usually the one of the first to provide major aid for disasters worldwide.
Are there any studies that look at charitable contributions not including church donations?
Are Liberals or Moderates more likely to think that the government should fulfill the role of charities?
I just want to open this up for discussion and hear everyone's opinion.
