Yes, I am an Atheist. I view religion strictly from an anthropological point of view. I see religion as man's invention to explain the unexplainable, keep law and order among the community, and to gain power by converting and taking over the more "barbaric" societies. The mere fact that there are so many different types of religion, deities, and practices around the world - as well as thousands of varying "myths" about the creation of the world and man - argues very strongly for humanity's attempts at explaining life and how to live it (we are a curious race, after all), but not not for the existence of a supernatural being (or beings) itself. I'm not taken in by the argument that science still can't explain a lot of things - science has evidence for what it can explain, religion doesn't. End of story.

Given that there is plenty reason to support making up a god for the benefit and comfort of society, and less evidence to support gods, I would say either something started us on our way and left (possible but unlikely) or we came from the Big Bang and no spiritual or greater entity made us.
so.. atheism for me.

But I do believe there is a higher power than all of us. I ask for help some times.

There's more and more evidence gathered every day pointing towards the lack of a deity in charge of all this. More and more religious texts are debunked, new ones are found that conflict, and I think everyone can say with a certainty that God doesn't want to be found scientifically. Given that there is plenty reason to support making up a god for the benefit and comfort of society, and less evidence to support gods, I would say either something started us on our way and left (possible but unlikely) or we came from the Big Bang and no spiritual or greater entity made us.

No I am not an Atheist. '''Conveniently religious''' will be a term for me. I don't follow any particular religious rituals. But I do believe there is a higher power than all of us. I ask for help some times.

An atheist is someone who does not believe in God, or any other divine deity. One can be an atheist and still believe in a higher power of some kind, just not that, that higher power is a personal or impersonal “God”. Typically someone who is doubtful about the existence of a God or Gods or deities is an agnostic, therefore an agnostic and an atheist may believe in a power or powers that are outside of our understanding. But that’s not the question so I guess I would have to say I am an Agnostic Atheist.
