No, he liberated the Hebrew slaves of the Egyptians. It was his "mission from God."
Moses was born of a Hebrew slave in Egypt at a time when the Hebrews were beginning to outnumber the Egyptians. This caused the Egyptians to get kind nervous, and all newborn male Hebrew babies were ordered killed. Moses' mother hid him, and put him in a basket and floated him down the river, where he was found by the Pharoah's daughter and adopted by the royal family. He was raised as an Egyptian prince, but killed a slave-master who was abusing a slave, and fled.
He pled with the Pharoah to release the Hebrew slaves, but the Pharoah refused, so God sent plagues down upon Egypt. After the ten plagues, the Pharoah relented and let the Hebrew slaves go, with Moses as their leader, but apparently changed his mind and sent his army after them.
God parted the Red Sea for the Hebrews to cross, and closed it upon the Pharoah's army. Then, to make a long story short, the Hebrews started grumbling because they were tired and hungry and thought they might have been better off as slaves. They stopped paying attention to God and so they were punished by getting lost in the desert for 40 years, until that generation had passed.
For a more in-depth rendering of the story, read the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy in the Bible.
