Did the letter not explain what it was for? If not, I would say that you probably should not worry about calling to see what the money is for. Maybe they were cashing you out for leftover vacation, or your last expense check, etc. If you really think they paid you in error and you are worried that they will eventually request reimbursement, then you should call and verify what the payment is for. Otherwise, I saw deposit the check, and just be aware that it will be reflected in your w-2 come tax time.

I opened a letter from my last job and found a check for $211 that I don't know how I earned. Should I even call to ask what it's for?
