In comparison to other dog with longer legs, a fraction slower. In comparison to a human they run very well. Basset Hounds were bred to hunt small game by catching the games scent and chasing the game down. Don't be fooled by their short stature the Bassets short legs are beneficial when, having located the game, it needs to chase it down a hole or burrow.
