Ethiopia has problems with drought. There should be a way to predict which year is going to have drought. So they should invest in weather predictions. Also, they should have projects to save water. Southern Indian villages had a program to collect rain water during the monsoon and keep the water in big closed areas to be used in summer. They should take measures to have irrigation available during drought years. For that the scientists should find a way to make the soil absorb more water during the rainy season.
Effective irrigation systems such as drop irrigation should be adopted.
Their land is owned by the government and leased to the farmers for lenghty periods of time. There should be a way to get loans against their leased agricultural lands to promote and fund the agricultural-based industries.
ECX has to have more effective ways to trade specialized coffee. To reduce poverty, they should give importance to producing more food crops, like grains, vegetables and fruits.
With the start of ECX the crops are inspected properly food safety measures are taken and proper storage solutions are provided. This all will improve the market value of Ethiopian commodities. Before, commodity buyers and sellers tended to trade only with those they knew so as to avoid the risk of being cheated.ECX is closely monitoring security issues. Small scale farmers are now better informed and so have more bargaining power.
"ECX has a vision to revolutionize Ethiopia's tradition bound agriculture through creating a new market system that serves all market actors, ranging from farmers to traders, from processors to exporters and consumers."

What will most likely accelerate agricultural growth is the Ethiopian Commodities Exchange(ECX). It was established in April 2008, but it is already handling some of the country's biggest exports such as coffee and sesame. It was created by an Ethiopian economist as a market-based solution to ending hunger in her famine-plagued country. Below is link to a documentary on her work creating the ECX:
