I am most familiar with del.ico.us now delicious social bookmarking site. I have the buttons on my toolbar to quickly add new bookmarks and search existing ones. I started using it as a student to collect my research and share my finds with other students. I also created a tag cloud of my student bookmarks and put it in the sidebar of my student wiki.

http://www.google.com/reader/ is an RSS reader. When you subscribe to blogs, newsletters or other syndicated content on the web, you can have it delivered to an on-line or local RSS reader to keep from cluttering up your inbox. You can subscribe through RSS to members or tags on delicious. Particularly helpful if you are following a rapidly evolving topic.

Google does have social bookmarking available at http://www.google.com/bookmarks/

I have bookmarked all of my mahalo pages in del.icio.us.

the delicious tool bar tool is only for fire-fox, right ?
I use safari and have been using http://sharethis.com/ because it opens a little box with alot of different bookmarks to choose from.

I don't have a firm grasp on how to use the RSS feeds yet ... you just copy the address from the link and paste it somewhere, but I havent figured out where, lol, like technorati or something? ... this whole social/blogging/networking stuff is new to me.

Delicious tool bar is for Firefox.

To syndicate your work, you would list your site at technorati or similar site and the offer the link for subscribing.

If you want to subscribe to others work, you download set up RSS reading capability on your desktop or create a reader account at google.com/reader or similar. When you select the icon to subscribe you select google reader and you will start receiving feeds to your reader account. Works similar to e-mail, except it is one way communication.
