So, would you still be upset by all the changes here at Mahalo If...
Full time guides at 1000$ a month have to put out 25 new pages a week, 12 hours of updating and content work and 10 Q/A bits. This seems like a lot of work for a little money. But after thinking about it.. working from home, pulling 250 a week. No gasoline to buy, not having to put my kids in daycare. and supplements the family income... from my point of view this is a pretty sweet deal. Especially for a job that requires NO education, NO drug testing, and NO experience.
But then, I'm bitter about it since I won't be getting one of those positions.
5$M to whoever gives the most honest opinion, in MY eyes.

I could live on 2500/month so on top of the guide position I would also have to make a commitment to write for other websites and make up the difference between what the guide job pays and what I need to live but I do not see that being a problem as what I have really learned here at Mahalo over the past 15 months is that I enjoy writing and with some polishing I could be very good at it.
I would buy a better computer, a desk, a really g r e a t office chair and off I would go in what I would see as building the internet. People would ask me what I did for a living and I could say "I'm in construction" and not be lying, or "I'm in education" and not be lying, or "I help people" and not be lying, or most accurately "I write for Mahalo.com" and be telling the truth.
I would move to southern Connecticut, maybe Milford, New Haven, Stamford, or Norwalk, get a condo right on Long Island Sound and do nothing but write..

M$One thing is of course the people who are ensured a spot to keep earning money are not going to be as upset as the ones just being shoved away, because just that they are still earning money. I was in chat yesterday and someone who hasn't been on mahalo long at all was talking about how it was a great change and everything because only last week they were chosen as a VM. I think that the VM's should have to apply and everything just like the rest of us. Especially the ones who have only been doing it a week or so.
I think the change will be hurtful, I mean I didn't have a whole lot of m$ but it was enough to look forward to and watch grow. I have a baby and one on the way and am moving so I was really looking forward to it and it really was/is going to help out.
I just think that not everything was taken in to consideration. I am thinking abouts till doing the q&a simply because I enjoy doing it, and things like that but I am a bit discouraged and feel we have all been treated weird..

M$the VM guide positions are going to be awarded based on tenure and other things.. not all of them will be remaining. Jason has stated there will be 50 open slots to be filled, and the VMs and such would be offered slots based on other criteria. Not all of them will be automatically in. If they were doing that, PLUS the 50k/month for the new guide positions, Mahalo would begin to hemorrhage money instantly.

M$Have you ever worked a real job?
I have a real job now. I am a manager of a loan office and I run a laundry mat. I am trying to create a viable income at home because my husband is staring down the barrel of a deployment to afghanistan very soon. I would like to be home with our children when that happens.
I wish I could be a guide. As a stay at home mom, any opportunity to make income from home is a deal for me. So I would be loving life if I could be a guide.
Honestly, I doubt that I will be lucky enough to have a Guide position, since I haven't been here that long. There are so many people who have invested so much time writing here at Mahalo that they can do the work in their sleep. Those are the people who will really excel.
If I wasn't one of the lucky few, I would just pick up my marbles and go home. People get laid off every day. I'm just relieved it's not our primary source of income.
Thank you for asking.

M$For the ones that are lucky enough to get it I am happy for them. Maybe they will have something for us that can not be a guide and still be able to work up the ladder with something other then gift cards and charities. We are just going to have to wait and see.
I am upset yes to a point but I think that I will be able to anser better after the changes go into effect

M$According to the page cited below, a per hour fee of $35 / hour could be reasonable. Because 12 hours a week are required for the new guides, For 48 required hours per month, this would be an additional $1,600. Assuming minimum wage, 48 hours would be $400 per month.
The new system definitely gives the owners of an advantage on saving writing costs. It does provide newbie writer a chance to build a portfolio, even if they sign away all rights to their work.
Every contributer to the site my do their own analysis.
PS: The $1000 per month is gross and does not account for taxes and FICA costs.

M$But looking on the bright side, ' change ' is not bad at all. It makes us move forward for the better. I do feel better thinking that we are ALL moving to another phase. And that ALL will be learning new rules, new programs, etc. Im not a newbie anymore, at least. (no offense to anybody)

Given the cost of living up there, compared to down here, this doesn't surprise me. I happen to live somewhere cheap, which makes an extra grand a month a big deal. Also helps that it would not be the only source of income.
