So how do you feel about the different music that is out today, how has it changed?
So the music that is out and what you would say popular, is obviously not the same as it was, say in the 1920's or even earlier. Do you feel people put the same amount of energy and spirit in to creating their music? Do you think that people now are just trying to make a quick pay check, or are there still artists that put their whole heart and soul in to the music that they create. Also what would your favorite genre be and how has that been affected by time?

To be perfectly honest, I find a lot of the popular music these days pretty depressing.
Has anyone noticed the growing trend for the singing in certain generes to be electronically enhanced or digitally altered? Cher was one of the earliest memories I have of this, in Do You Believe in Life After Love… I can see its place in certain genres, but I’m hearing it in so much ordinary pop music and R&B…. I am simply wondering, in the popular genres, is it no longer necessary to be able to sing well without digital enhancement?
I also get mild bouts of depression at the sheer stupidity of some of the lyrics in some of THE most popular songs of the last decade. I invoke the sheer well-adjusted genius of lines such as those found in Kesha’s Tik Tok: (and I quote)
Everybody getting crunk
Boys try to touch my junk
And let’s not forget, from Blah Blah Blah:
Just turn around boy and let me hit that
Don't be a little b***h with your chit chat
Just show me where your dick's at
I wanna be naked
And you’re wasted
Oh, how far we have come! Let us rejoice in what we are teaching our children, and what we have allowed to become popular. Let us teach our children values and self-esteem; while toxic garbage is what they see and hear everywhere, and what is considered cool.
Hate it. I don’t mind certain choices of words or confronting themes, if they mean something and are talking about what needs to be talked about… not just fashionably and openly glorifying disrespect and animal-like behavior between people. Yuck. Fine, if some adults want to listen to this, be my guest. But it’s clearly being aimed at young teens and even preteens. Eww.
I guess the idea really is: Sell everything you can to the youngest consumers you can, before they are old enough to have any discernment in what they really like and think and feel as individuals, and what they are buying, and why.
