Opening relations with Cuba will be a long, difficult process. It will take time, and don't expect it to happen soon. The fact that the President is even opening the door to it is a big deal, but it cannot happen overnight.
Personally, having experience with the Executive Branch, I think that relations will thaw in the next few years. But I don't anticipate that we will (or Cuba will) open its doors in the next few months.
