I would remove the bacon. I am a vegetarian. I would then add some cheese, onion, and avocado. But then it wouldn't be a BLT would it?
But, the BLT is said to possibly come from the tea sandwich , which is popular in England and Britain. This sandwich is small and petite (two bites), not like the traditional American BLT that is a meal in itself. The tea sandwich is served in the afternoon, hence, with teas. It is meant to ease hunger until dinner time.
The bread is usually white with the crust removed right before serving. Typical fillings are: radishes, cucumber, asparagus, watercress, pimento cheese, smoked salmon, fruit jam, curried chicken, and egg salad.
Spreads used are: butter, cream cheese, or mayonnaise.

If you had to remove one of the ingredients from the famous BLT (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwich, which one would it be and why?
I know this is a criminally insane thing to do, but if you had to which one would you remove?
I bet you never knew the BLT Sandwich even had its own wikipedia page!

I Love BLT's they are one of my favorite sandwich's all year around. The one item that I would remove would have to be the lettuce. I can not stand lettuce when it gets soggy and droopy. However pile on the bacon, tomato and toast that bread hmmmm we are good to go !!

I agree here. I can only see the Lettuce being removed from this powerful trio. It's the only one that's expendible, in my opinion. Tomatoes and Bacon are a must.

You cannot be serious to quote John McEnroe, a bunny removes the lettuce?
I also attach the "Bunny Song" from Veggie Tales, I wondered what you thought of this song!

Take out the tomato, it has a texture that just does not fit with the rest of the sandwich. Tomatoes are slimy and have a slightly acidic flavor, which just does not fit with the lettuce and bacon. Bacon, when perfectly done, is slightly crispy and crunchy. Fresh lettuce is the same. But the most perfect tomato in the world is still somewhat slimy and just does not fit in.

I may be in the minority, but I'd say the tomato. There are too many tasteless, mushy, oozy tomatoes out there. You'll be looking at this beautiful sandwich, bite into--crunch, chew, and what's this mushy thing that has destroyed the structural integrity of your bread? A disgusting tomato. At least lettuce isn't supposed to have too much taste, and lettuce shouldn't be too watery anyway (unless you've had your sandwich out for a while).

On further thought, I note that if you combine this suggestion, removing the bacon, with my suggestion for your other question - adding fried oysters- and use French bread, then you have a New Orleans Fried Oyster PoBoy, which is one of my favorite sandwiches.
