Canon makes some great weather-proof cases, including for the Rebel XTi... why don't you simply get one if you're going to be outdoors, or even wanna try photography in the rain?
If you don't like those (many pro's think they're useless), why not try the ones with fabric sleeves - like this:

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
I use a Canon Rebel XTi. I know it's not "water proof" but will it ruin if I'm out in a downpour and it gets a little wet?
I accidentally reported this as a dup question. I meant to say the other question I asked.

Honestly, I don't know how much of the rain it could handle, so you may not want to experiment if your unsure. Personally, I wouldn't shoot with a bare camera in heavy rain. Canon makes some great weather-proof cases, including for the Rebel XTi... why don't you simply get one if you're going to be outdoors, or even wanna try photography in the rain?
