What can one do to get rid of dark circles under his or her eyes?

What causes dark under eye circles?

What are some "cures" for dark under eye circles? Ideally, I'm not really looking for a chemical cream, but rather natural ways to get rid of dark circles.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

According to mayoclinic.com, the main causes for dark circles under the eyes are: lack of sleep, allergies, eczema, heredity, smoking, drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks, nasal congestion, pigmentation irregularities, and sun exposure.

Since there is such a wide range of causes, you should experiment to see what works best for you. There are several different things people who have issues with under eye circles can inexpensively try at home.

1. Chill two teaspoons and hold them over your eyes.

2. Cold cucumber slices held over the eyes for at least 10 min.

3. Cool/moist chamomile teabags over the eyes for 5-10min.

4. Saline washes or sprays can help with nasal congestion and sinus issues that may cause undereye circles.

5. Use extra pillows to elevate your head and prevent undereye fluid collection.

I've personally used a few of these remedies (cucumbers, teabags, and spoons), and the cucumbers always worked the best for me. I like to let them sit on my eyes while I'm giving myself a facial.

Hope that helps!

Sometimes those are formed when you don't get enough sleep so one possible remedy would be to try to get more sleep, though I'm sure this isn't exactly what you are looking for I can tell you that it did work for me. After I left my job I was afforded more time to sleep and the circles disappeared in about one week.

Concealer, concealer and more concealer! Seriously though, if getting more sleep isn't an option (and sadly, for most of us it isn't) concealer and eye brighteners work great to hide dark circles. For the eye cream, look for something with vitamin K and retinol to reduce puffiness. For the concealer, make sure to use something with yellow tones as that will hide the dark circles better.

There are other methods to reduce dark circles....try reducing your salt intake, drink a lot of water, don't rub your eyes and if you smoke, quit. Additionally, you can apply things like cucumber slices, cool tea bags or ice cubes to your eyes. Like the eye cream, these things reduce swelling.

I'm not a doctor, but here are some tips and secrets @robbrown

1. Start drinking a shot of resveratrol daily, every day of your life. If you can't drink a shot daily, you can get resveratrol in red grapes or red wine. There are products out there, plenty of resveratrol drinks. One of the products my mother takes is Vivix. I'd recommend you look into it. If you do not eat or drink it, try taking resveratrol pills. Do a search for these, and you'll find a few good ones.

2. Drink 8 glasses of water daily and exercise daily. It's good to sweat, or even sit in a sauna to let your body release, and then follow step four of cucumbers or green tea bags.

3. Always get 8 hours of sleep. This is a good number of hours to get of sleep.

4. Put cold cucumbers over your eyes or Green Tea Bags. Yes, green tea bags work! Check out this link:

5. Take a nutricosmetic vitamin daily. Invest in a AgeOff, Murad, or Dr. PericoneVitamins. great vitamin to take daily that will help. Drink water with these vitamins. Dr. Perricone has better age reduction. Research all these products.
