Singers with great range?

What vocalists have the best ranges?
I know that Lea Michele of Glee has a mad range, and that Freddie Mercury was just absolutely insane.
Who else is/was this crazy great?
Tip for best answer: M$0.20

I have to say that Mariah Carey in her early days represents some serious vocal range. She's been know to have a five octave vocal range. I absolutely LOVE her voice and musical prowess. I wish she still showed it off these days.

Christina Aguilera comes in second with a four octave range. Another beautiful voice.

As much as I love her voice, I'm going to have to agree with it not being used to it's full potential. It's really a shame, but at least we can appreciate the way she started out her career. It was the best showcasing of her vocal talent. Thank you for picking my answer.

Well, Mariah's vocal abilities wasn't based on the pop career she's in now. Her mother was an opera singer, and that's how she attained her amazing range. Using it for pop certainly doesn't do it justice. She has done some gospel that I know of, but has gone to much simpler stuff now. I think it's a shame with her vocal range to simply stick to pop. It rarely gets showcased anymore. I would kill to have a voice like hers. I would certainly be showing it off as much as possible.

Wow. Mariah Carey.

A pop singer who at some point sang amazingly? That's a wonder.

But seriously, I never knew her voice was so flexible, or so deep. Actually reminds me a bit of Amber Riley (I'm a Glee fanatic), but not quite as deep. Similarly soulful.

Jesse L. Martin has a sick range. Crazy low and crazy high, and every register he's sings in sounds amazing. Jesse Martin played Tom Collins in Rent (2005). He's also been in different versions of Law and Order.

Yeah, I saw that movie, and have listened to the OBC album more times than I can count. And I agree that he's great. But I'm actually not as impressed with him. Pascal and Menzel, too, are amazing. Actually, now that I think about it, I think Pascal fits into this category.
Anyway, great answer! And kickass clip.

In the '70's Minnie Riperton released a song showing off her more than 5 octave voice range. It was totally impossible to sing along with but it was a very cool song. Unfortunately, she passed away in 1979 from breast cancer.

Kate Bush, another 70-80's performer had quite the voice range as well.

Both artists were extremely gifted.

Both of those are amazing.
I never knew about Maya Rudolph's mom. I'd love to see her sing low, but even without that, her voice goes to an absurdly high pitch. At a few points, I could not believe it was a person singing.

Similar goes for Bush, but it's not quite AS impressive.
