Should you water seeds heavily or lightly immediately after planting them?

Will watering the freshly planted seeds heavily wash them away? How much water do new seeds need to begin growing?

Water seeds lightly and often to prevent them washing away or clumping up. Of course the amount of water depends of the size and quality of the seeds. A good advice: If you can use rainwater that's best for the seeds. If not let the water stand in the watering can overnight before watering the seeds. Never water the seeds with very cold water.
