Should you be able to delete a question you asked?

Somehow my question was posted twice each time offering a tip. I'm not against having to pay out the tips, but would have disabled one of the questions if I was able to. Anyone else see a need for this?
Tip for best answer: M$2.15
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As long as there is a safeguard in place so that people don't abuse that power and, in turn, never have to give out tips....

I'd hate to see someone pose a question... let 3-10 people answer it.... pretty much get his/her answer and promptly delete the question before recognizing the person who spent time and effort answering.

I agree for core users it would be a nice feature to keep a double question from appearing by accident.

I look at how submissions work at www.Digg.com ... it will ask you once or twice if your submission is a duplicate based on how close the title is to others already submitted.... maybe a system like that could help the question process...

Checkpoints to make sure that hitting "submit question" and accidentally hitting it again wont result in 2 postings....

I think one should be able to delete a question until it has received an answer. Once it receives its first answer then it should no longer be able to be deleted.

If it's a good question, I could be working on it half an hour before posting my answer. I'd be pretty annoyed if the question was gone!

I agree with this too, but I think iin addition to that, if someone accidently posted the same question twice, they can delete one and move the answers to the other one.

I'm sure if you contacted the admins of the site they would delete it for you. I think being able to delete your own questions would lead to abuse too quickly.
As an aside, I think it would be great if you could ask a question anonymously and somehow have the responses secretley associated with your account. That would be cool.

This is definitely a much needed feature. It can be discouraging to ask a question here and find someone posting the same exact thing, or close to it, later and everyone flocks to that question and yours gets lost in a quagmire of twitter and useless questions.

Also very useful if you run into a bug and your question does get double posted. If there'll be a type of check on this system, I say users should be allowed to delete more questions per their belt level, like we have for voting, asking, managing pages, etc.

Yes, Drunk clicking affects a large percentage of internet users. Allowing the user to delete his or her question would keep them in the clear.

No! Once a question has been asked it is quite possible that someone has started spending his time and effort at answering it. Maybe more than one person, and maybe a lot of time and effort. It would not be right to delete the question from under the answerer.

You can't tell whether someone is working on a question by whether they have posted the answer or not.

If it's a good question, I could be working on it half an hour before posting my answer. I'd be pretty annoyed if the question was gone!

This change would do far more harm than good.

We have a hour to change them now. I always double check.
The picture has nothing to do with the question but I thought it would make you feel better.

I agree we need that feature, but not sure why it's not there in the first place.

Sometimes when editing a question already submitted posts another question, I have had that issue before. and obviously there is a bug! Not sure if that is the issue with this question.

In your case, I think you are refering to these two questions:

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/food-and-drink/what-change-to-your-diet-has-had-the-greatest-positive-change-in-your-physique

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/food-and-drink/what-change-in-your-diet-has-led-to-the-positive-change-in-your-body

Many users have asked for that feature earlier, hope mahalo team is working on that feature for the next version.

In the mean time, you can contact @lon or @jeffhoard or send email to contact@mahalo.com. to consolidate these two questions and the answers and also refund the tip for that duplicate question.
Mahalo team is very responsive and helpful.

Yes, I do think that you should be able to delete a question that you have asked. Especially in your situation here with offering a tip and it appearing twice.

In my opinion, you should definitely be able to delete unanswered questions. Those don't contain any valuable information.
If a question is answered, then deleting it would mean deleting information that might be valuable to others.

Perhaps if you could simply remove your name and make the question anonymous so that you aren't associated with it - but any valuable answers would remain.

But then again, internet+anonymity = 4chan...

Deleting an answer sounds appealing. But deleting a question??? i think there should be a good reason to do that... especially since you are tipping a winner answer. deleting a question before the best answer is chosen sounds ok. but after a best answer is chosen i think that the question should be stored.

I agree with you on this. I think there should be some sort of editing tool when it comes to questions that offer payments. Or, there should be some type of protocol for repeat questions. I hope you didn't have to pay for both!! but I wish you good luck in the future.

Yes, sometimes it's not just about editing a question but getting rid of it altogether. I have also posted the same question twice. Perhaps, they haven't added this feature because some members might delete it before having to select a question. If this is the case then they should have a time limit to delete the question. Great idea @infomaven!

No.

Simply because once a question is posted there could always be someone that has already started on an answer.

I can think of atleast more than one occurrence where this has happened to me.

Why not setup a special mechanism that only hides the picture to users who haven't seen it ?

Kind Regards,
XDS

Absolutely. Not only should we be able to correct mistakes the system has made, but we should be able to change our minds if we want to also.

It seems to me if your question would impinge your reputation, or you feel foolish for asking it, or simply found the answer and don't feel like wasting people's time, that you should be able to delete your answer. That feels like far to much work to have simply meant: yes.

Sure, I agree.

Primarily to correct system mistakes.

With the 1 hr time afterward, you should have plenty of time to have second thoughts and change it in most cases.
