Should UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun take a paycut because of the state's budget woes?

Jim Calhoun threw a fit when asked in a post-game press conference about whether he was willing to take a pay cut because the state is $2 billion in debt. Calhoun said he brings $12 million to the university every year---but scrutiny of the budget shows that isn't true and in fact the program brings little monetary compensation to the school. It is fair that he be asked to take a paycut?

Absolutely.  It isn't like Basketball is critical to the school's success or programs.  It may be cool, and fun, and even something to be proud of, but it does not result in an improved education for the students.

No way. It's his job. They signed the contract. timw's job probably isn't critical to the school's success either, he probably doesn't even work there, but i bet he doesn't want to take a pay cut.

In hard times, companies are making hard choices. For example, HP cut everyone who makes over a certain amount ($30k IIRC) take a 5% pay cut. Colleges, Universities and in general schools should consider doing the same thing. Maybe increase the minimum to $70k or $80k, and cut everyone who makes more than that by 5%, especially schools that are funded by tax dollars. Make it easier for lower income people to get a college education.
