Should the yankees resign Andy Pettit or just cut the ties and try to make the young ones work out?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00

Yes they should, but only for the 10 mil on the table. If Pettitte thinks he can make more elsewhere and can gain an extra mil from the Yankees it is still worth it. The Yankees have their 1-2 punch, if Wang comes back healthy, they have 1-2-3, if they get Pettitte or Sheets they have 1-2-3-4 and Joba as five or Phil when he's ready again as five. Without Pettitte, who we know can pitch in NY they are Joba at 4 and Hughes at 5. Sheets could be the answer at a low cost, but injuries and never pitching in a huge place like NY could kill this quickly. The best answer is Pettitte, and if he only gives the Yankees 1/2 a season (tires out) Hughes, Kennedy, Joba and company can be there for the second half.

No. He is through. This guys career is over, just another player with inflated steroid era numbers.

from newsday 12/7/07: "HGH is a synthetic hormone that mimics the chemical that your pituitary gland secretes. It stimulates growth and facilitates muscle mass and the ability to recover from physical exertion."McNamee recalled that he injected Pettitte with human growth hormone that McNamee obtained from [former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk] Radomski on two to four occasions."

Wise up, Yankees, and move on, you can get 10 - 12 wins for less than 10 million, can't you?

I don't think you can "make" the young ones work out. Given the nature of pitching itself and the injury risks on their current staff, the smart answer is to try to get Petitte back and leave Kennedy, Hughes et al in Scranton. Make them perform so well that you're compelled to bring them back. With Pettite's age, Sabathia's size and amount of wear last season, and Burnett's fragility, one of them will surely miss time this year. Remember, Boston thought it had too much pitching last year, and wound up scrambling for it.
