Should the name of a suspect is in custody for a crime with large emotion be allowed to be known in the media?

I am referring to the Victorian Bushfires in Australia and the fact that they have someone in custody for arson. With all of the emotion about this and some of the comments by Politians who should no better, should the anonymity of the accused be protected for the ability of the Court system to try them effectively, and the protection of their family and friends.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The police should not have any secret prisoners. The public should know who is being held in prison.

However, there is no reason the police need to make any announcements to the media and to clue them in that they are holding a suspect for the bush fires.

The text poses exactly the same question but changes the the question of the headline. While the headline asks if it should be known, the text asks if it should be protected. Should I answer the question in the headline or in the text?
