You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

However, after reading two statements from the victim:
"In 2003, Samantha Geimer said, "Straight up, what he did to me was wrong. But I wish he would return to America so the whole ordeal can be put to rest for both of us." Furthermore, "I'm sure if he could go back, he wouldn't do it again. He made a terrible mistake but he's paid for it". (1)
In 2008, Geimer stated in an interview that she wishes Polanski would be forgiven, “I think he's sorry, I think he knows it was wrong. I don't think he's a danger to society. I don't think he needs to be locked up forever and no one has ever come out ever — besides me — and accused him of anything. It was 30 years ago now. It's an unpleasant memory ... (but) I can live with it." (2)
Seeing that the victim wants to move on and put this all behind her, and she is the one who counts most, then I say the whole thing should be dropped. I would like to see him do the right thing and face a court of law--be sentenced to community service and the victim should be awarded some money.
However, I do feel that the Academy Awards should change their eligibility so that rapists--or any other convicted criminals--who flee justice cannot be nominated for an award.

I have to disagree with the last part of your comment. The Academy Awards are for creativity and artistic merit, not moral character. If we start adding restrictions, even ones that seem obvious, we open the door to others adding restrictions we don't agree with.
Just as an example, imagine a documentary about the Palestinians, or the Israeli Defense Force, or maybe something like "Finding Bin Laden". Suppose the director is accused of "collaborating with terrorists" or collaborating with oppressors". Maybe the director paid their way to an interview, or portrayed someone sympathetically, or whatever. "Collaboration with terrorists" sounds as bad as "convicted criminal running away" to most ears, but we certainly don't want to eliminate controversial documentaries from contention, do we?
I think "convicted of a sex crime" is fairly black and white, as is the fleeing from justice part. We're not talking about personal feelings, but legal decisions. There is a big difference.
