Should real world businesses have a presence in virtual worlds?
Many businesses want to have as much exposure as possible so they advertise in print, on the radio and on television if they can afford the expense. However, smaller amounts have ventured into advertising their products online. For example, BWM and Harrods at one time had their stores and products featured on the virtual World Second Life. Some real world clothing designers have virtual clones of their clothing lines on IMVU. Should more real world stores use virtual worlds for advertising?

Inclusion in a virtual work may be beneficial for large brands that sell consumer products that appeal to the population that play these type of games. Primarily, I would say companies that targeted the 16-25 age demographic and have a product that heavily relies on brand recognition for sales is a good fit for marketing through these virtual worlds. For example, youth oriented clothing brands, music, fast food chains and the like may benefit from this type of exposure. The difficulty is determining an ROI (Return on Investment) for these types of marketing campaigns. With many budgets being tight, other venues may seem to reach more potential buyers.
