Should prostitution be legal?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would be against legalizing prostitution because it would bring many people into the business as clients and it would legitimize adultery and fornication which will lead to further breakdown of family, morals and eventually the society.
Legalizing is not an assurance that it would lead to safer conditions, better health or better conditions for all those in the business because many will not still not abide on it especially those who are illegally pushing people into it.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, so please don't be offended.
Those who really want a prostitute will find them. Those who don't want it, won't look for it. Do you think there will be an increase in demand just because it was legalized?

Many prostitutes are actually victims of human trafficking, meaning they are being forced to be prostitutes, its not their choice. Personally, I believe people who buy prostitutes (jons) should be prosecuted heavily, but prostitutes should not. This is a complex legal issue though, and I don't believe that prostitution is ok on the side of the prostitute, but criminalizing it at the prostitutes side will have negative effects. I listed one site under my source, but I suggest you look at some others, for example, look up "Prostitution Policy in Europe: A Time of Change? Author(s): Judith Kilvington, Sophie Day, Helen Ward." There are many other good articles you can read on the topic too.
