Should Pete Rose be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, he bet on the games, BUT he bet on his team to WIN. That's a key point I think. If he bet on them to lose, then he'd be throwing games, which is a disgrace. (think 1919 Black Sox scandal) But to bet on his team to win, well he, as a manager is supposed to try and get his team to win anyway. I am not condoning betting, it's not good and he paid the price I think being ineligible all these years. But for the all time hits leader, who did it NATURALLY, unlike the cheaters of today using performance enhancing drugs, he should be eligible and let everyone vote on him and see if he makes it.

Even though I think Pete Rose is an arrogant jerk, I think he should be
in the Hall of Fame, based on his accomplishments as a player (all-time
hits leader). Allowing him back into the game in some capacity might be a different story.

Yes despite betting on his games he was a great player. Betting on his games probably made him better actually.

Yes. Betting on games is far more serious than steroid abuse. Rose is a jerk, a criminal, and a liar, but the punishment is way out of line with the crime by now. He has been punished for decades, and IMO he should be in the Hall of Fame before he dies.

BTW, to me the worst thing he did wasn't betting on games, it was, as a manager, writing his own name into the lineup as a lousy defensive .240 hitting first baseman with no power so that he could break the hit record. i wanted him to get the hit record, Ty Cobb was an even worse person, but he was hurting his team for his own personal gain.
