Should O.J. Simpson still be displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

He's reviled the world over as perhaps the most notorious alleged murderer in the world today. Sure he's in prison now, but many feel for the crimes he should have been convicted for. Still, before any of what take place on that fateful week in June of 1994, the name O.J. Simpson was known mostly for three things: a pitchman for Hertz rent-a-cars; a bad actor in movies such as The Towering Inferno and Naked Gun; and as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.

So should the Hall keep his likeness on display or remove it from existence because of something that happened AFTER his career ended?

O.J. Simpson love him or hate him was one of the best running backs in NFL history. His criminal activity did not involve the game, such as betting. I don’t feel O.J. Simpson should be removed from the NFL Hall of Fame.

According to Profootballreference.com O.J. Simpson ran for 11,236 yards and had 61 rushing touchdowns in his NFL career. He was also the first man to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. In 1973 O.J. Simpson ran for 2,003 yards in only 14 games for the Buffalo Bills.

If O.J. Simpson had been convicted of crimes before he went into the NFL Hall of Fame, then possibly an argument could be made to keep him out. But since Simpson was already in the Hall I would not support his removal. I feel you have to separate the athlete from the man and what he did after he retired

What he did on the football field, should not be combiined with what he has done off the field. The two should be viewed independently. Should a president be viewed as a murderer for sending troops to war, even though he may have been a pacifist before becoming a politician? I guess the bottom line is that he was an athlete first, then tried, but not convicted of multiple murders, which in itself is probably an atrocity. The two are seprate issues unlike a player in a Hall of Fame who threw a game or perhaps made bets on games he played in. No matter what is done, it is silly to think you can erase history and just pretend it didn't happen.
