Should non-smoking employees be able to take a smoke break?

M$At me first job in a restaurant I noticed that all of the servers who smoked were taking short breaks to have their cigarettes and I wanted in on the additional self guided break times. I began to go on break with one particular server who I liked whenever she went to smoke and everything was fine until the mgmt saw me on break not smoking.
I was asked " @buddawiggi what are you doing on break, you do not smoke?" I replied that I was just taking the same breaks as the others who did smoke and was immediately scoffed at with the reply "Get back to work." In the coming days I ignored that advice and continued to go on my non smoking smoke breaks but was caught again and told "This is your last warning, I you do not smoke you do not get a smoke break"
The next day I bought a pack of cigarettes.
Despite being a smoker my answer to the question is; While I would like to see all employees get equal breaks, I feel that smokers should not get extra breaks. Catering to an addiction by allowing an addict to use while at work is never going to be a good thing. The addiction to nicotine can be satisfied with other nicotine transfer systems (patches, gums etc) and quitting is best for everyone in every sense. I would recommend that there be no breaks for smoking, if one wants to smoke they can do it on a regularly scheduled break.
That makes things even and if it was my company (and it is now) there would be a no smoking at work policy for everyone. If an employee wants to smoke they can do it on their own time and on their own property.

M$I would say completely revamp the whole name of the break. Why does it need to be called a "smoke" break? I was going to say just name it a "coffee" break, but why do even that? Some people, myself included, don't even drink coffee. Instead, why can't we call it a break? Say, a 5 or 10 minute break (depending on the company).
If a company didn't allow their non-smoking employees to take a "smoke" break, then that company would be encouraging smoking. I seriously doubt any company (except, perhaps, a tobacco company) would want to do it. My final answer would be to just remove the "smoke" out of the break and allow the employees to get up, get some coffee or water, and stretch their legs a little bit.

M$Now, if I’m making a mistake and if a smoking break is granted to an employee, in addition to the breaks he already has, I think is fair for all employees to have the same number of breaks.
But as far as I know as a smoker and employer, nobody can ask for a smoking break. Just because smoking is not a necessity it’s a hobby. A bad one, even…
But, again, I never heard of smoking breaks.
