He was way out of line and it makes you wonder if he has an editor that let it go to publication. He definitely shouldn't be published for a while and should suffer some consequences, but I don't know if I would favor putting him out of work completely. A demotion to a non writing position, a suspension without pay, hit him hard but give him a chance to prove he's sincere. Also, some sort of company enforced "community service". once he shows he has learned to respect a little human decency and sensitivity (maybe some training), maybe he can explain it to the other knuckle heads or the kids in journalism classes somewhere who are learning to write in the age of anonymous flaming trolls.
