Should mahalo incorporate a spell-check feature?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Actually, spell-check is already incorporated. Mahalo staff tries their best to fix spelling mistakes. Unfortunately, some are so bad that it's impossible to know the original meaning.

The better question... How can we get more people to use the integrated spell checking.

Unfortunately, when things come from twitter, you can always spell-check.

No it should not. For one thing, that's the browser's job. I use Firefox and Chrome and both spellcheck. However, I think that ignorant and careless spelling is helpful when it comes through. It tells me that the questioner is too ignorant and careless to deserve any of my time writing an answer.

I agree with tracebooks - I use Mahalo Answers in Firefox because it does the on-the-fly spell checking. However, spell checkers are only as good as you let them be. I used to have to delete the custom dictionaries on machines I was responsible for at the bank because people were spelling things wrong, then telling the machine to add the word to the dictionary so future misspellings weren't caught.

Well, spell checkers only work if people actually pay attention to those red lines underneath misspelled words! Firefox, Chrome and Safari all have it incorporated; it's an add-on for Opera and IE. My guess is the worst offenders are using one of those operating systems or just don't think it's important.

Actually the worst offenders are Twitter users. They are probably typing on a cell phone keyboard and are used to instant message type grammar and spelling anyway.

I have to laugh at your example, that's why I replied to his question like I did but to answer your question I use browsers that have built in spell checkers but this person came from twitter and what ever he uses must not have a spell checker or its a young kid that don't really care.

eh, I'm a pretty good speller, and it kinda annoys me when I see people spelling wrong. But I don't get mad or anything about it. and there might be a reason for them spelling wrong, like they just learned English or something. There might be a reason, so don't judge people. But also, it might be OK to have a spell check.

Despite a limit of 140 characters in asking question (both via Mahalo direct and Twitter), question should be typed with correct spelling at the minimum. Minor grammar mistakes might be corrected later on (by Mahalo staff?)
Even with lazyness, the question can be asked as:
Where can I get wheelchair in Los Angeles, CA?

@jasoncalacanis mentioned this in TWiT 180 on how Mahalo is better than Yahoo Answer as questions are being corrected and stupid one being deleted.
http://www.twit.tv/180

The above question can be answered similar to this
How Are Babies Formed?
