Should Mahalo employees be listed in the Top Members list?
What do you guys think? In many ways doesn't worry me as I will never be near the top.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They get there the same way the rest of us do, namely by having the best answers to people's questions. They put just as much effort and thought into answering a question as anybody and should be recognized for their efforts the same way.
The fact that they may be compensated outside of the tip system is irrelevant to me. Their added incentive doesn't detract from their accomplishments.

M$Furthermore, Mahalo employees are required to recycle their tips into the system.
I have earned my position at the top--believe me. However, I did request that I be taken off the weekly top three, but was told that is not an option. I am encouraging Mahalo to have a more dynamic system that would highlight other users. I am as sick of everyone else of always seeing my avatar there.
I am active on this forum because I think it is a good idea and I would like to see it work. I know people think I spend every waking moment here, but I don't.

M$Darcy is not paid to work in Answers AND she can't make money from the system because of a policy I made at the start. I'm starting to think is kind of unfair that Darcy can't "cash out" and I may overturn this starting next month.
Darcy writes for our "How to" team where she makes $25 to $75 for writing our How to articles you see on Mahalo.com.
No doubt he was misled by the picture of you locked up in a cage in the Mahalo basement... :)
My mistake. As I say (obviously under the wrong impression that you worked for Mahalo) I have nothing against you and I agree with Sharon that you would have had to put much hard work in to getting to the top. I was interested in others opinions.
If you aren't really locked in the basement I don't see how you find so much time to answer. I think they not only lock you in the basement; but feed you Twinkies and Jolt instead of bread and water.
I do think it would be useful though to have some sort of indication that someone is a Mahalo staff member - maybe have the Mahalo flower after their name or something similar.

M$We might add that down the road, but as I've mentioned I want us to mix and mingle without getting preferential treatment from users (i.e. people picking us as best answer because they see we work at Mahalo).
If you want to know if someone works at Mahalo click on their icon... Mahalo team members are required to have their employment in the bio.

M$Your answers were chosen by people as good ones thus you climbed your way up as anybody else.
If being in any way related to mahalo was giving you an advantage then it would have made sense not to list you there, but it's not the case so enjoy!

M$The only downside is sometimes I wonder if they've got more staff than users! :)

M$Well that is a reassurance. I wouldn't want you to run out of cash and have to pull the site. :)
Very good point... "we eat our own dog food." In fact, Mahalo employees are now required to have--at their own expense--a smartphone so they can suffer when they see the site on an iPhone or BlackBerry like the rest of us. :-)
We have ~30 staff members and 150-200k folks come to Mahalo a day... so, i think we've got that last part covered. ;-)
