Should Johnny Knoxville have been arrested in LAX for having a fake grenade?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

He should not have been treated differently (which he was presumably because he has a media profile).

It wasted the valuable time of many TSA and other law enforcement personnel who should have been screening for actual threats.
He (and possibly the producers if he was working at the time) should be charged at least for the wasting of police time.

If you do a robbery with a fake weapon it is still armed-robbery.
Considering the very well known history of terrible incidents on aircraft in the US, this sort of nonchalant time wasting for fun (of the people trying to keep all of safe on aircraft) should not be tolerated. Especially by someone in the media, it's a poor example of behavior by Knoxville and by the law (by letting him play them).

Throw the book at him, hard (very hard he's a JackAss boy he'd expect it to hurt real good).

No. People shouldn't be arrested for being stupid.

According to my research, it is acceptable to bring toy weapons aboard an airplane but unacceptable if they are realistic replicas. Since his falls under the realistic replica, then it would have been okay if he had checked his bag, but not acceptable in his carry on.

That said, I would not want to see him arrested because that would mean we could get arrested for similar issues--such as gel-type candles or gel shoe inserts. Two things that are on the "prohibited list"

The airport doors (at least in Canada) say in pretty plain english that anyone making bomb or terrorist threats, even in jest, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
So, yes, he should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us.

He didn't make a threat. He simply had it in his luggage and it was spotted when his luggage was screened.

According to the TSA.gov website you are allowed to bring replica firearms onto a plane as long as they are checked. Since this was a carry on item Johnny Knoxville broke the rules, however the TSA website doesn't make it clear that you can be arrested for this.

Hammers and box cutters fall under the same category, I dont think every handyman who accidentally brought a hammer in his carry on gets arrested.

I once had to leave a corkscrew at the airport after accidentally leaving it in my backpack/carry on. But I was not arrested.

Wow  HE is very lucky he is not an Arab or middle eastern man.  Being anglo-american (& somewhat famous tv celebrity maybe), Johnny Knoxville gets a free get out of airport jail card.  An Arab version of Johnny Knoxville would've been taken to an undisclosed location outside the U.S. & probably would've been tortured for 24 hrs straight.  Gotta love this new era i America.
