Should I see a dermatologist on a regular basis?

Is there a reason to see such a doctor on a regular basis? Are there any skin or scalp concerns that need regular checking?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am not a doctor.

For most people, seeing a dermatologist is like seeing an ear, nose and throat doctor. If you have a problem, you need to go. Otherwise, you don’t need to go on a regular basis.

There are some people who should see a dermatologist on a regular basis. If you have severe acne, any sort of aquired or inherited skin disease or disorder (like XP, psoriasis or excema) or if you have skin cancer, you need to see a dermatologist regularly for monitoring and treatment.

From acne.about.com

-quote
If you suddenly begin to break out in red bumps on the face, upper chest, back, or elsewhere, and you have never before been diagnosed with acne, you should see your doctor. Some other conditions, such as rosacea and folliculitis, look very similar to acne.

Even if you have healthy skin, it is a good idea to see a dermatologist at least once in your lifetime to have yourself checked for skin cancers. Just like a baseline mammogram is a record of a woman’s healthy breast, a baseline check for skin cancers will tell you what’s normal for your skin.

It all depends on your skin type and if you are having any trouble currently.

Skin is the biggest organ of our body and the most sensitive one too. We need to make sure that we take good care of it. A minor skin affliction if not treated on tight can lead to disastrous consequences. Constant itching, boils, a weird looking mole, flakiness, these all need to be checked.

It is advised to consult a professional when you aren’t sure about anything, not it can be only detrimental to your own health but also be contagious for others. So it is ib best order to consult a dermatologist or at least a general physician on a regular basis, that way is anything is out of the ordinary, you can be warned about it in time!

A dermatologist is a skin expert that assesses, treats, and maintains the integrity of your integumentary system. If you do not have any concern with your skin condition, it is not necessary to see a dermatologist on a regular basis.

There are some cases that would often require a regular visit to your skin doctor. Diseases like severe and chronic acne, eczema that do not respond to conventional treatment, psoriasis, and skin cancer need proper assessment and management of the dermatologist. The course of treatment to these types of skin conditions are usually set on a long term basis. The reason behind this is that there are phases in the treatment plan that should be followed.

The medications used by people with this skin diseases are strong that is why it is necessary to monitor the patient for any improvement and adverse reactions. It is necessary to see a dermatologist to ensure positive result.
