Should I put a woolly hat on in winter to protect my hair?

Especially in winter my hair feels rather dry. Should I put a hat on or use some special shampoo or conditioner to help my hair over the winter?

You are right to consider wearing a woolly hat to protect your hair in winter. You know how cold weather dries out your skin, especially on your hands if you forget to put on hand cream or to wear gloves? Well it is exactly the same with your hair.

Hair exposed to cold weather can suffer and become dry, dull and brittle. It is a great idea to wear a woolly hat, this will help protect your hair from the cold and also keep you warmer. You can get some nice looking ones, or you could make a few of your own, it's really easy.

I wouldn't worry too much about any special shampoo or conditioner, unless your hair is very dry or damaged, but it certainly helps if you use an intensive conditioner, especially on the ends once a week.

Your hair doesn't need a wooly hat. You need a wooly hat to stay warm; the head is a major heat loss and a hat can make a big difference in staying warm.
For your hair, it is important to know that shampoos are nothing more than detergents. There is no need to spend a lot of money for hair products (the owner of one major brand came out years ago and stated he uses rain water, not his expensive shampoo, to wash his hair).
Find a couple of mild shampoos and alternate use; couple days with one, then a couple of days with the other. If you have dry hair, you can use a conditioner.
The cold isn't the problem as much as how and what you wash your hair.
Keep the wooly hat and stay warm!

A hat can definitely help protect your hair in the winter time. Other things you can do if your hair is dry are using a deep conditioner. If you wash your hair every day, try to switch to every other day or once every 2 days. The actual act of washing hair is not too damaging, but what we do after, can be. Blow drying, curling irons and hot irons can be very damaging. Try to let your hair air dry and instead of straightening your hair, perhaps you can add mousse and wear it natural with no thermal tools needed.

If you insist on drying your hair, invest in a hard hat dryer. These disperse heat evenly and will not dry or damage your hair as easy.

You can find hard hat dryers at beauty supply stores, such as Sally's for about $40. The best part is you do not need your hands!! Sit under the dryer at home, just like in the salon. Relax and read a magazine!!
