Should I let my wife open a *really cool* birthday gift that arrived extra early? Her birthday isn't for another 28 days!

me: maybe its a dvd
me: dvd box set?
me: hmmm
me: a wii game?
me: oh the possibilities are endless of what could be in that box
me: maybe its a puppy, maybe you should open it to see if its ok?
me: do you think its a puppy?
wife: can I open it?
me: do you think its a puppy?
wife: maybe
wife: yes, yes I think it is
wife: it is shaped like a puppy
wife: sad puppy
wife: you make puppy cry
me: naw, I dont think amazon sells puppies

I have three Idea's?
I take it she has already seen it. Has it been wrapped?

1. If it something special I would not let her open it I would go and get something else in the exact same size box or un box the original and replace it with something else.
Then I would let her talk me into opening it early, not knowing the original was still hidden away.

2. That or I would take my chances and get her a couple of other gifts and box them up in the same size boxes, wrap them and make sure they weigh about the same and I would let her choose one, and only one before her Birthday. Hope she misses the great one. The other two would drive her crazy setting there.

3. ( MY CHOICE) Or better yet place the present in a lock box and wrap up 28 little presents one which holds the key to the box and let her open one present daily untill she finds the key.

I am a sucker for giving in though.

It depends on your wife...and if you have a really cooler gift that you can give her 28 days from now. I'd wait, and enjoy the anticipation of seeing her open it.

No... do not let her open it.

Put it out on a table where she can see it for the full 28 days. Everytime she looks at it say, "Boy, I bet you're wondering what's in there. I bet you want to open it? Too baaad! It's not your birthday yet. And THIS gift is awesome!"

Then, laugh maniacally...

Don't let her open it! If it's really cool, imagine how cool it'll seem on the day of her birthday! And on the flip side, if it's really all that cool, her actual birthday gifts are bound to seem like a letdown. You don't want that, do you?

I'd just keep it hidden, also. You don't want her to peek, and I know I'd be tempted.

If she knows about it....you can't STOP HER!!! :))) She will find it no matter where you hide it. ^^
If she has no clue... then wait!

Is it perishable (food, etc.)? If so, it might be better to let her open it now.

Is it something that is better off being used or worn now for some reason? Or is it an "any time" gift that can easily wait?

If you bought her something special to wear on her birthday when you take her out to celebrate, you'd have to give it to her just a little early so that she can plan on wearing it.

Does she know about the gift's arrival? If so, is she the type that can be convinced to wait for her birthday? Many people would rather just collect the gifts unopened (like under the tree at Christmas) and then sit down on "their day" and open all of them at once.

If she is the type that cannot wait to open anything that comes in, and she finds out the gift is there, she'll probably go ahead and open it as soon as she finds it!!!

The best way to handle this is to make her wait (unless it really is a puppy then that would be both cruel and creepy). Her excitement will build over the waiting time and then she (hopefully) will enjoy it even more when she opens it.

Is there a reason why you would like her to open the gift early??? Your question sounds like you want her to go ahead and open it.

My choice would be to wait. It's like opening Christmas gifts a month early.

You know, I always feel sorry for people born close to Christmas. It seems that perhaps celebrating an entire month might be fun for her. I'd be very tempted to give her the gift early rather than let the sentiment get lost in the holiday.

No, I do not think that you should allow your wife to open a really cool birthday gift that arrived really early, the wait and constant wondering will only add to the surprise that she will get when she finally opens.

Haha.. I can't imagine that poor little puppy getting shipped in a box from Amazon!

If it arrived early, and you bought it for her; I see no problem letting her open it. After all, it's your gift to her.

One thing though, YOU GOT THE POWER. Muahahaha.. =)

Sure, let her open her gift if you'd like.

Just start thinking of an equally cool or better gift to get her since this one will no longer count at a birthday gift.

I'm pretty sure that's the law according to most wives and girlfriends. ;-)

If it really is good... then no.

If there is a chance that it will be a bit anti-climactic to wait, then yes.
