Yes, there are many photographers who still prefer to work with film as opposed to shooting on digital cameras. The need to use digital has much more to do with the speed of processing and the cost of getting the prints you need done. Film has become used more for artistic endeavors and pleasure photography while career photographers use digital means because of the turn around time.
The difference in the quality has to do with the amount of information actually contained on film versus what is cataloged by the computer chips in digital cameras. You actually have more information on film with a thorough mapping of the light when you use film. But for the average user, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. On top of that the cost of processing film and the fact you are not processing it yourself means you actually have more control with a digital camera.
