Should I get a new sand filter for my pool or repair the old one?

My old filter got so clogged that I couldn't backwash it clean. When I tried remove the top half of the dome (held on by 32 bolts) many of the bolts snapped. Should I try to refill this with sand and get new bolts or get a new filter. I hear the filters are $600-800. That's pretty expensive for my budget.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

I would go for the repair its way cheaper than buying a new filter, the sand is very inexpensive and the Stainless Steel bolts should run under 20 bucks.
