Should I buy a tivo premiere or tivo premiere XL?
I have a series 2 with a lifetime subscription so I will get the lifetime on the new tivo for a discounted $200.
I can buy the XL with lifetime for $700 or the regular with lifetime for $500
Is 100 more recording hours, THX certified and a remote worth the $200 more?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Normally, I'd tell you to get the premiere and then do your own upgrade to a larger hard drive, but TiVo has disabled this option for the time being, so if you get the regular one you'll be stuck with the recording capacity for a while. If all you record is standard definition than there's no need for the XL, but if most of your content is in HD, you'll find that even 150 hours isn't enough. Inevitably you'll fall behind on some shows and want to save them, but will have to make tough choices. At the time it won't seem all that bad because they'll be plenty of other things to watch, but you'll crave fresh TV during the summer when most shows are repeats. Ultimately, I'd recommend going with the XL.

why did they disable the option for upgrading to a larger hard drive? It shows on their website the option for adding on an external hard drive, is that only for series 3?
