You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I realize this is an old question and you likely already have your answer but for the benefit of any other reader who stumbles on the question I thought I would provide some information. Your doctor will decide if he believes the extra nodules merit doing a biopsy. If so, it will be a fine needle aspiration and is done on an outpatient basis. This will be sent to a lab to be sure there are no cancerous cells. If there are, it is possible a portion or all of your thyroid may be removed. It is also possible your enlarged thyroid may be from Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. This is an autoimmune disease which often causes goiters. Hashimoto's can cause you to become either hypothyroid or hyperthyroid, depending on the TSH level and the impact of the medication.
