Who is doing the banning?
A gallery owner does have the right to show or not show certain artwork for any reason or no reason.
A government/public museum I'm not so sure. But then it may be subjective to the curator when they may say "It doesn't fit our exhibit".
More details would be needed. and I bet the ACLU and local papers may have something to say about it if you let them know the situation ;)
